It would be nice to have the ESN expanded to support the interchange of data between dealers. Things like service calls, orders and other types of data would be very convenient to electronically interchange, especially for situations like ITT work between dealers. We could create virtual techs and some of the other attributes that would be required to support this. Maybe this could be brought into the Dealer Gateway so a dealer could “authorize” a sharing partner to interchange data with, map common codes/attributes that are needed with and other setup items. It would be great if it could be using a standardized process like EDI. The automotive industry does a lot of EDI transactions with each type of interchange having a different EDI code to differentiate the data and form standards for sharing data.
As a base functionality, being able to send service call data between 2 eAuto systems would be nice. The system already allows a non-serialized service call so these could be “ghost” calls or could put the serialized equipment in the system that the call relates to. Being able to get status updates and most importantly tech notes, tech labor records back from the other dealer would be great. Bigger picture, it’d be nice to be able to electronically send an invoice to the dealer for services rendered, etc.
