Currently there is no way to view or edit an .xls/x file in ECI Cloud. This causes users to save the file to the documents repository then download it to their local computer and edit it then save it back to the ECI document repository and then finally add the file back to the correct record. This is a huge waste of time and resources. If it's money for the license seats you're worried about, what about looking at OpenOffice or just install a local copy of office on the VM. Even if is Office 2016 is installed locally on the VM, it will still allow editing of .doc and .xls/x files. Wordpad for .doc is not sufficient as it shows unformatted view. As long as the VM has the proper security protect program, there should be no concerns.

We recognize that this is an issue and we have been working to determine a solution. We are in the process now of working out a new tool that will allow connectivity to e-automate that will significantly minimize these types of interactions in cloud. We are hopeful that this new initiative launching later this year will make it better experience for users in this area.
We are looking at ways that we can configure the cloud environment to be able to save exported views to your local machine where you can use your Office 365 tools.
